Pre-Occupational Therapy

A pre-professional program is a statement of intent on the student’s part, not an academic major.

Occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants help people across the lifespan participate in the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of everyday activities (occupations)(American Occupational Therapy Association, Inc. OT Definition)

The Pre-Occupational Therapy students pursue a course of study to fulfill requirements for entry into an Occupational Therapy school involves completion of a bachelor’s degree at UMBC, in addition to completing preparation coursework for professional studies in Occupational Therapy. Students will then complete their professional studies in Occupational Therapy in a Masters of Occupational Therapy program at another institution.

The Office for Academic & Pre-Professional Advising can assist students interested in pursuing the Pre-Occupational Therapy curriculum.

The coursework below meets the requirements for most nationally accredited Occupational Therapy programs. Students should become familiar with the requirements of the school(s) from which they eventually wish to obtain their professional degree.
