Academic Transition Experiences for First-Year, Second-Year, & Transfer Students

Academic Engagement & Transition Programs (AETP) provide academic and programmatic opportunities that serve all new students during their first year on campus and beyond! The experiences outlined below are available to all students (freshmen and transfers) during their transition to UMBC and into their second year on campus. These opportunities are designed to help students find their academic and social home at UMBC. Getting involved during the first year will help facilitate the transition to college life and prepare students for a successful outcome to their undergraduate experience.

Additionally, AETP manages the American Sign Language (ASL) courses and offers ASL 101 , ASL 102 , and ASL 201 . Students can use ASL 201  to fulfill the University’s Foreign Language General Education Program (GEP) requirement. For more information about ASL, visit the American Sign Language (ASL) website.

Please visit the AETP Website and contact any member of the team with questions.
