GWST 381 - Sexuality and Reproduction in the U.S.(3.00) The course investigates the history and cultural politics of reproduction in the U.S, including 19th century criminalization of contraception and abortion as well as the 20th century liberalization of those laws. Special attention is given to gendered assumptions about heterosexual practices, family formation, and national belonging underlying these debates; the organized advocacy for women’s sexual and reproductive rights; and how intersecting sexual, racial, religious, and international politics have shaped domestic and foreign population policy. Recommended Preparation: GWST 100 and (GWST 200 , or GWST 300 )
