EDUC 679 - Observation and Assessment in Early Childhood Education[3] This course is characterized by an interdisciplinary approach through the integration of the historical, physical and psychological foundations in relation to the growth and development of young children from birth to age eight, curriculum, and teaching methods including technology. Basic observation techniques will be practiced and used to plan, implement and reflect on appropriate activities. Naturalistic assessment of children’s development will be a focus for developing beginning skills in action research. Maryland Teacher Technology Standards as well as NAEYC Professional Standards will be explored. Graduate teacher candidates will further explore the processes in the “Descriptive Review of the Child” (Himley & Carini).
