MATH 635 - Foundations of Finite Element Methods[3] Variational formulations of physical problems; Ritz-Galerkin method; h, p and hp finite element spaces; approximation theory. A selection of topics from: plate and shell elements, mixed methods, superconvergence, a posterior error estimation, reliability and adaptivity. Computational experience with finite element codes will be provided. Prerequisite: Prerequisites: MATH 600 , MATH 620 and familiarity with a high-level programming language or consent of instructor.
