AMST 474 - Theorizing Identity in Contemporary American Culture(3.00) In this course we examine how identity politics and issues of representation determine the reception of minority artists in America. We will conduct this inquiry through a comparative, transnational examination of African American and Asian American literary and artistic production. Identity politics have long influenced the reception and production of the minority artist in U.S. Through a comparative approach, we uncover theoretical connections between constructions of race and ethnicity in the U.S. and the world.
