AFST 396 - Psychology, Race, and Social Justice

This course examines historical and psychological factors that have influenced the mistreatment of African Americans by the U.S. criminal justice system. Psychological research and theory are used to provide insights on why such misconduct persists on the part of justice officials. Issues explored include the contributions of implicit biases and cultural stereotypes for such behavior. Social justice principles and applied psychological research findings are used to explore possible amelioration of these inequalities. Recommended Preparation AFST 100   and a lower level SS course (with at least a C grade)
