CMSC 449 - Malware Analysis

Malicious software (malware) is a constant threat to the information and intellectual property of organizations. By analyzing malware using both state and dynamic methods, students will be introduced to those increasingly sophisticated attacks. This course will provide a foundation for understanding emerging trends in malware designs, including efforts to deter analysis. Discussions and hands-on exercises will cover object file formats, and the use of  tools such as debuggers,virtual machines, and disassemblers. Finally, obfuscation and  packing schemes will be discussed, along with various issues related to operating systems internals.
