ANTH 224 - Focused Cultural Study: The Caribbean

This course explores contemporary Caribbean cultures, as well as the historical, political, and economic processes that shape present day life. Students will read ethnographic accounts from various island societies of the region to examine anthropological concepts, themes, and debates. These studies will allow student to challenge and unsettle commonly held notions and stereotypes about this multifaceted region and its people. Using a comparative approach, students will gain an understanding of the great overlap and variation among Caribbean nations and cultures.
