[3]This course addresses methods, materials and strategies for reading and writing instruction in the elementary school. Students will demonstrate knowledge of balanced literacy programs; reading, writing and comprehension strategies in the content areas; vocabulary acquisition and word-recognition strategies. They will demonstrate knowledge of appropriate assessment and the needs of diverse learners. Developing as writers equipped to engage children in authentic writing is a major focus.
