ENME 465 - Introductory Fracture Mechanics(3.00) An examination of the concepts of fracture in members with pre-existing flaws. Emphasis is primarily on the mechanics aspects with the development of the Griffith theory and the introduction of the stress intensity factor, K, associated with different types of cracks. Fracture phenomena are introduced together with critical values of the fracture toughness of materials. Testing procedures for characterizing materials together with applications of fracture mechanics to design are treated.
