POLI 323 - The Presidency(3.00) This course examines the U.S. presidency as a highly idiosyncratic, rapidly evolving political institution. The focus will be on the contemporary presidency, with specific attention paid to subtopics, including the study and assessment of the presidency and presidents; constitutional design, presidential power and leadership; campaigns and elections; public opinion, media and the rhetorical presidency; structural organization of the White House, executive office of the president and the executive branch; relations with Congress and the bureaucracy; and the president’s role in domestic, economic and budgetary policies. Recommended Preparation: Junior standing or POLI 100 .
