POLI 412 - Ethics and Public Policy(3.00) Moral issues facing people individually and collectively in their professional or public roles, such as government officials, corporate managers, scientists, doctors and citizens. Clarification of value concepts such as freedom, equality, justice, the public interest and community. Exposition of these values as they pertain to actual cases of decision-making and policy debates. Issue areas examined include personal integrity in public and private organizations, corporate social responsibility, government regulation of technology and the ethics of income redistribution. This is a seminar course intended for upper-level students with some background in ethics and/or political philosophy. Recommended Preparation: Permission of instructor.
