SPAN 461 - Hispanic Language and Culture for Foreign Language Teachers I(3.00) A reading and discussion course conducted in Spanish that examines broad aspects of contemporary life in the Spanish-speaking world through the use of authentic texts and materials including advertisements, newspaper and magazine articles, short stories and plays, poems, films and music. Weekly topics include cross-cultural values, gender roles and the family, youth and education, the individual and society. Readings on teaching foreign cultures to American students and developing lesson plans are included. Recommended Preparation: Permission of instructor. Notes: Open only to foreign language teachers.
