Major topics include development of an operational concept, functional decomposition, top-down vs. bottom-up techniques, requirements allocation and partitioning, interface definition, inclusion of integrity, reliability and maintainability within the design concept, validation and verification. The use of technical performance budgeting, quality function deployment techniques and statistical and linear models in the design process will be discussed. Detailed examples of these techniques will be used to illustrate the various techniques.
