MUSC 334 - Women in Music (3) Women have been musical composers, performers, teachers, and patrons since antiquity, but their contributions are often overlooked. This course explores musical traditions from around the world and across history from the perspectives of women. We will consider women’s musical accomplishments, how they have been depicted in media, and how gender intersects with social position. The course includes cisgender and trans women from Western and non-Western musical cultures. Prior musical knowledge is not required. (Spring)
