EDUC 654 - Processes and Acquisition of Reading Credits: [3]
Description: This course focuses on the ongoing relationship among the communication skills (listening, speaking, writing and reading) within young children’s lives in their families, educational settings and communities. Teacher candidates will study children’s development of language and literacy within diverse economic, ethnic and language contexts to better understand and appreciate the contributions families make to their children’s earliest learning. Throughout the course, teacher candidates will have opportunities to reflect on their beliefs about how children acquire literacy, develop their personal knowledge of language and literacy acquisition and increase their skills in helping all young children succeed as readers and writers.
