Description: Chinese history from the beginning of the Ching dynasty to the founding of the republic in 1912. A study of the disintegration of traditional China and the intrusion of the West. Special emphasis will be placed on the reevaluation of the nature of Western imperialism in China, the rise of Chinese nationalism and communist Chinese interpretations of China’s encounter with the West.
