HIST 625 - Making a Buck: The History of American Capitalism

Description: The word “capitalism” immediately calls to mind foundational works of modern eonomics, particularly Adam Smith and Karl Marx. So in this course you will read some of the most important philosophers and ecomomists of capitalism. We will supplement this intellectual framework with the work of historians who discuss the political and economic developments that have shaped Americal capitalism. Topics to be discussed include slavery, risk-taking, the rise of corporations, income inequality, and modern finance.
