ANCS 370 - When Worlds Collide: The Rediscovery of Antiquity (3) This course surveys the rediscovery of antiquity during the Age of Revolution. Pioneering explorations and early excavations in Europe, Africa, and America are viewed within the context of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Political revolutions breaking with the past are accompanied by renewed interest in the distant past in colonial America, France, Italy, Spain, Egypt, and Greece, leading to the birth of scientific archaeology and the early development of the discipline of art history.
