CHEM 441 - Physical Chemistry of Macromolecules (3) Introduction to the physical chemistry of macromolecules. Emphasis is placed on the development of broad general concepts applicable to the study of synthetic and biological macromolecules. Topics considered include determination of molecular weight and molecular weight distributions; conformational properties of high polymers; and thermodynamics and transport properties of polymer solutions, polyelectrolytes and polymerization processes. Techniques such as sedimentation analysis, light scattering, osmometry and viscometry are discussed.
