ENGL 473 - Advanced Creative Writing-Poetry (3) In this advanced course in writing poetry, students focus on the strategies and approaches they wish to prioritize as they continue developing their craft as poets. They refine elements of their writing process that have been productive for them and engage in in-depth drafting and revision practices, and they continue to cultivate skills in providing supportive, analytical feedback on others’ work. They study a wide variety of published poems, examining these critically from a poet’s viewpoint, focusing on how they are constructed and how they achieve specific effects. The course explores the work habits, and habits of mind, that successful poets embrace, and the ways that they cultivate community and grow in their writing practice.
