HIST 301 - The American City (3) This course traces the history of America’s cities, from the colonial period through the late 20th century, locating urban forms in their visual, social, political, and symbolic contexts. We will consider the changing nature of cities through time and place. Part of class will focus on urban architectures and technologies. Course assignments will challenge students to think about why cities look and function the way they do, and why we should care about urban locales.
