HIST 308 - Perspectives on Childhood and Adolescence (3) Attitudes toward children and childhood as a stage of life are historically contingent phenomena: They are shaped by the social context within which they exist. This course examines attitudes toward children and children as a social group within various historical settings and among different subcultures in America. We will attempt to understand why these variations occur and how they make sense within our own particular setting. As part of this course, students are encouraged to think critically about their own experiences of and attitudes toward childhood.
