HIST 480 - Mao and After: History of Contemporary China (3)


This course examines the history of the People’s Republic of China, focusing on the successes and failures of socialist revolutions under Mao and capitalist reforms after Mao. The course highlights the following themes: the relations between central and local authorities; revolution and society; rural vs. urban developments; culture, ideology and gender; territory and ethnicity; and international relations. Recommended Preparation: HIST 103 .
