EDHS 431 - Leadership, Crisis, and Risk Communication (3) Citizens, and society at large, expect risks to be minimized and crises effectively mitigated. Public leaders are therefore expected to be prepared for a wide variety of contingencies and to chart pathways out of a crisis. In the modern context, the task of leadership crisis and risk communication is about more than just organizing a response to a crisis event or threat. It is about the capacity to build networks, and collaboration and transnational institutions that can effectively deal with the complexity of contemporary issues confronting society. This course looks at all stakeholders involved in crisis and risk reduction, at how they communicate about present, emerging, and evolving risks. It explores effective principles which allow stakeholders to communicate the right message in a timely manner and in a way that people actually understand and can act upon during periods of risk or crisis.
