Description: Introduction to statistical mechanics and theoretical aspects of absolute reaction rate theory. Statistical definition of entropy; compounding of systems; combinatorial problems; the methods of Gibbs; quantum statistics; partition functions; applications in equilibrium states of gases, solids and liquids; and partition formulation of the theory of absolute reaction rates.
