Description: This course will examine a selection of important works from the world literary tradition in the light of enduring ideas, themes and interpretive problems. Topics, which will vary from semester to semester, may deal with such concerns as the conception and uses of time in narrative, the poetry of political engagement or changing concepts of the hero.
