GES 776 - Application of Remote Sensing

Credits: [3]
Description: This course provides an introduction to remote sensing with an emphasis on the basics of imagery acquisition technologies and data processing techniques. A survey of spatially and non-spatially referenced data sources (e.g. raster, vector, and socio-economic sources) are reviewed as applied to remote sensing analysis in the context of land cover classification, disaster recovery, and socio-economic studies. Students will gain hands on experience with image interpretation, processing, and classification in this context. On completion of the course, students will be able to recognize and distinguish the differences among the space-based, aerial, and ground-based sensor technologies. Particular attention is paid to the development of a framework within which students can systematically judge the value of several geo-spatial data sources for use in an enterprise GIS.
