ENGL 271 - Introduction to Creative Writing - Fiction (3) This course introduces students to the craft of writing short stories. Students explore the strategies and approaches that successful stories employ, in order to make effective choices in developing their own. They read a variety of short fiction by published authors, and they produce their own stories using drafting, sharing, and revision processes to help them realize their goals. A key feature of the course is the opportunity for students to provide focused, supportive feedback on each other’s drafts, which is important for their development as readers and writers. The course prepares students for further study in fiction writing and for future critical reading of creative work.
