GWST 440 - Imperial Entanglements: Race, Gender, Sexuality (3)

This interdisciplinary course fosters a world-historical perspective on race, gender and sexuality and the ways in which they are entangled or interconnected or intersect.  The term “world-historical” indicates that the course will track the transnational histories of these categories and their entanglements, centering how histories of empire and colonialism matter for their emergence and meaning. The course will examine how these categories shape the exercise of imperial and colonial power, as well as how the exercise of this power affects the development of these categories in turn. It will also consider contemporary legacies of these histories. Recommended Preparation: GWST 100  or CSST 210 .
