HIST 110 - Europe in the World to 1700 (3)

In this course, students examine various religious traditions, political systems, values, philosophies, and economic and social structures that together constitute the heritage of Europe, from the early Middle Ages through to the mid eighteenth century. Organized around themes such as empire, race, gender, urbanization, and inclusion and exclusion, this course charts the interaction between different polities within Europe, and their engagement with the world beyond the continent. Although this course focuses on individuals, events, ideas, and concepts in the past, students also consider how these have helped shape the world we live in today. Students learn how to think historically about the course materials and engage in critical interpretations of primary and secondary sources, enabling them to participate in, analyze, and reflect on the practice of history.
