This course is designed for high-intermediate English language students to improve reading comprehension and general language skills. Students will develop advanced comprehension skills, understand figurative language, and recognize a writer’s intent. Texts include fiction and non-fiction materials, emphasizing reading for both information and pleasure. Students are encouraged to participate in class and online discussions, and prepare reading logs and presentations for class. Students . This course together with ELC 041, partially fulfills UMBC’s conditional admission requirements.
