HIST 345 - Origins of Modern America, 1877-1920(3.00) An analysis of the United States’ rapid transition from a largely agricultural society to the world’s most diverse urban and industrial economy. Specific topics include America’s growth as a world power, the American West and territorial expansion, shaping a post-Reconstruction South, urbanization and the new consumer economy, industrialization, entrepreneurship, innovation, changing gender roles, modern childhood and family life, and politics. Recommended Preparation: Any 100 level Social Science.
