POLI 327 - Interest Groups and Lobbyists(3.00) This course examines the significance of organized interests and lobbying behavior on national policy. Specific topics include a history of lobbying and interest-group activity; the nature of representation; collective action and collective action dilemmas; membership, recruiting and fundraising; the structure and organization of interest groups; interest-group objectives and activities; tactics, information, access and influence of groups in lobbying Congress, the president, courts and the bureaucracy; campaign financing and political action committees; regulation of lobbying and campaign activities; and the impact of groups on policy outcomes. Recommended Preparation: Sophomore standing or POLI 100 .
