The M.P.S. is designed to prepare clinicians, computer scientists, information systems, health administration and public policy and other professionals to fulfill positions in the health IT and informatics field. Multidisciplinary coursework blends practical management oriented courses with more technically focused courses, allowing students to develop a formal graduate education program that best meets their individual career development needs, as well as to prepare health professionals to fulfill positions in healthcare technology management.
Domestic admissions decisions are based on the following criteria:
- An undergraduate degree in Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Health Education, or a degree related to healthcare professional practice or healthcare management is recommended. However, degrees from other fields may be acceptable given relevant work experience in the healthcare operations field.
- Applicants should have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on 4.0 scale.
- GRE scores are not required.
International Admission requirements:
- An undergraduate degree in Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Health Education, or a degree related to healthcare professional practice or healthcare management is recommended. - Applicants should have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Graduate Record Exams (GRE) scores with a minimum combined score of 306. Verbal Reasoning should be at least 153 and Analytical Writing at least 4.5. GRE scores are not required if your undergraduate degree was completed at an accredited U.S. university.
- Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) Scores: Minimum scores 597 (Written), 247 (computerized), 99 (Internet Based test-iBT). Scores must no more than 2 years old. iBT Scores Breakdown: Writing (23), Listening (23), Reading (25), Speaking (28, 23 acceptable if have 2 years’ work experience in supervisory or management positions in the U.S.).
Note: All original application documents for the Campus Based Programs must be sent directly to the Graduate School, rather than to the graduate program. UMBC’s assigned TOEFL code is 005835. TOEFL test must have been within 2 years of matriculation to be valid.
