Career and Academic Paths
A major in ancient studies can lead to a career in field archaeology, museum curating or teaching, and it provides excellent liberal arts preparation for many professional fields, including law and medicine. Graduates are also well-prepared for advanced studies in classics, archaeology, and ancient history.

All Ancient Studies majors and minors should contact the current chairperson, Dr. Rosenbloom, for academic advising.
Honors Program
There is an honors program designed for students who want to meet additional challenges, especially those who are considering graduate school. Students must choose Option I and meet additional requirements, including a minimum of 45 credits in courses for the major. The Honors student must take ANCS 399H , ANCS 498H /ANCS 499H in place of two upper-level courses in the major requirement, two additional three-credit, 300- or 400-level courses in Latin or Greek and 201 in the other language. A student must have at least a 3.5 GPA in ancient studies courses to become an Honors student.
Special Opportunities
Scholarships are available for ancient studies majors to participate in archaeological excavations, study abroad programs, and trips sponsored by the ancient studies department. For further information, contact the department chairperson. Recent travel opportunities sponsored by the department have included archaeological work in Menorca and Romania and tours of Greece, Turkey, Italy, and Spain. Students also excavated in Maryland.
Student Organizations
Ancient Studies Council
The Ancient Studies Council serves as a meeting ground for students and faculty. Events such as movie nights, visits to museums, and field trips are integrated into the academic year through the council.
