Visual Arts, Art History & Museum Studies Minor

This minor is open to students from any concentration in Visual Arts , as well students majoring in other disciplines who are interested in gaining a deeper understanding about the context in which artwork is produced. This context comprises the complex network of artistic intentions, historical circumstances, economic opportunities, and socio-political agendas that shape artists’ production and viewers’ reception of art objects. Students interested in pursuing this minor should contact a faculty member in the Art history area for further details and advisement.

Requirements:

ART 216 - Studies in Visual Culture (Prehistory through the 1750s) (3.00)

PLUS Select FOUR of the following: At least one course must be a 400 level course offering.

ART 321 - From the Enlightenment to the Birth of Modernism (1750-1880) (3.00)
ART 323 - Modernism (1880-1960) (3.00)
ART 328 - Postmodernism (1960 - present) (3.00)
ART 329 - Topics in Art History and Visual Culture (3.00) (May be repeated if topic varies for a maximum of 12 credits)
ART 349 - Black, Queer, and Feminist Film (3.00)
ART 424 - Topics in Contemporary Art (3.00)
ART 425 - Writing By and For Artists, Curators & Critics Critics (3.00)
ART 427 - Museum Practice (3.00)
ART 428 - History & Theory of the Art Museum (3.00)
ART 429 - Seminar in Art History & Visual Culture (3.00) (May be repeated if topic varies)
