Sociology Major Honors

Offered by Sociology, Anthropology, and Public Health . Students with strong academic records conduct a substantial independent research project, culminating in a thesis, during their final year in the major. Students considering graduate school are particularly encouraged to pursue this option.

Admission to the Program

Completion of 60 credits
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3
A minimum of 3 upper-level courses in Sociology and Anthropology with a minimum GPA of 3.3

Program Requirements

Completion of Sociology, B.A. and 6 additional credits
Minimum GPA of 3.3 and minimum GPA of 3.3 in Sociology and Anthropology combined
A minimum of 16 credits in Sociology and Anthropology completed in residence at UMBC
Completion of honors thesis
