Sociology Major Honors

Offered by Sociology, Anthropology, and Public Health . Students with strong academic records conduct a substantial independent research project, culminating in a thesis, during their final year in the major. Students considering graduate school are particularly encouraged to pursue this option.

Admission to the Program

  • Completion of 60 credits
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3
  • A minimum of 3 upper-level courses in Sociology and Anthropology with a minimum GPA of 3.3

Program Requirements

  • Completion of Sociology, B.A.  and 6 additional credits
  • Minimum GPA of 3.3 and minimum GPA of 3.3 in Sociology and Anthropology combined
  • A minimum of 16 credits in Sociology and Anthropology completed in residence at UMBC
  • Completion of honors thesis
