Offered by Honors College . The Honors College is an academic home for UMBC students who seek broad intellectual challenges, a comprehensive liberal arts foundation for their chosen field of study, and a community of like-minded and dedicated scholars. The College’s program of study combines exclusive, interdisciplinary coursework with flexible elective options that can fulfill departmental and university-level requirements.

Certificate Requirements
- Minimum grade of ‘B’ in graded courses applied to the certificate
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 upon graduation
Forum (2 credits)
First-year students complete the following:
Expository Writing (3 credits)
Complete ENGL 100 . Students who satisfy ENGL 100 through AP or IB credits complete an additional expository writing course as approved.
Honors Courses (18 credits)
Complete 3 honors seminars and 3 honors electives, including a minimum of 3 courses outside the major.
Honors Electives
Complete 3 approved 3- or 4-credit honors electives, which may include HONR 390 , HONR 400 , and HONR 410 . Students who have completed the honors seminar requirement may use additional sections of HONR 200 , HONR 210 , HONR 211 , or HONR 300 as electives. Honors electives are also offered by other departments, published in the Schedule of Classes, and often contain an ‘H’ in their course numbers. Graduate courses may be used as honors electives. For many Honors College students, Honors College electives also fulfill major, minor, or general education requirements.
Applied Learning Experience
Students complete an applied learning experience, such as university-sanctioned research, internship, study abroad, service-learning, teaching, or other approved experience, and write a reflection essay.
