The Japanese Certificate develops language proficiency as well as sophisticated knowledge of cultural content that adds to linguistics knowledge. It provides valuable language skills and cultural knowledge to students planning to pursue careers in computer science, information technology, and other fields.

Certificate Requirements

Minimum 17 credits
Minimum grade of ‘B’ in courses applied to the certificate
Certificates cannot be combined with a major or minor in the same language

JPNS 201 - Intermediate Japanese I (4)
JPNS 202 - Intermediate Japanese II (4)
JPNS 301 - Advanced Japanese I (3)

Elective Courses (6 credits)

Complete 6 credits from the following:

JPNS 302 - Advanced Japanese II (3)
JPNS 309 - Business Japanese (3)
JPNS 319 - Japanese Translation (3)
MLL 316 - Japanese Language in Society (3)
MLL 317 - Images of Society in Contemporary Japanese Films (3)
MLL 327 - Modern Japanese Culture (3)
