The Design, B.F.A. delves into those complex questions that absorb both the beginning and the advanced student in the expanding arena of visual communication. The curriculum encourages a rigorous handling of thought processes combined with inquiries springing from traditional, transitional, and emerging media. The major consists of a combination of required studio offerings in design and an elected group of technology-based courses in photography and/or computer-generated imagery. Design concepts and skills are fundamental to a broad range of careers and professions ranging from cultural, corporate, publishing, and visual communications to graphic design and digital media.

Major Requirements
- Minimum 75 credits
- Minimum grade of ‘C’ in courses applied to the major, except where otherwise indicated
Foundation Courses (27 credits)
Visual Arts Courses
Complete the following 21 credits:
Upper-Level Art Courses
Complete 6 credits from the following, including two semesters of ART 329 if topics vary:
Required Studio Electives (12 credits)
Complete 4 studio courses totaling 12 credits.
Design Concentration (39 credits)
Complete the following, including ART 331 with a grade of ‘B’ or better:
Accelerated Bachelor’s/Master’s Programs
Qualified students may apply to an accelerated program, which allows them to share courses between a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree. Students take graduate courses as undergraduate students and later apply those courses to master’s degrees. An undergraduate may apply to participate in an accelerated program even if the desired graduate program is in a department other than the one in which the student is majoring.
