Emergency and Disaster Management Minor

The minor in Emergency and Disaster Management introduces students to the principles, strategies, and practices for managing emergencies and mitigating the impact of disasters. Students will gain theoretical knowledge for addressing various types of emergencies, including natural disasters, technological hazards, and human-made crises. Students could explore topics such as risk assessment, emergency planning and preparedness, crisis communication, disaster response coordination, and recovery strategies. Students will be given opportunities to analyze the factors contributing to emergency situations, assess vulnerabilities within communities and organizations, and develop proactive measures to enhance resilience and minimize damage. The Emergency and Disaster Management Minor exposes students to valuable skills applicable across various fields, including public administration, healthcare, environmental science, engineering, and humanitarian aid. Students will have the base knowledge to contribute to emergency response teams, disaster relief organizations, government agencies, and community resilience initiatives, making contributions to safeguarding lives, property, and infrastructure in the face of adversity.
