Degree Requirements

The M.A. in Applied Sociology consists of 30 credits. All students must complete the statistics and methods requirement, plus either the thesis option or the analytical paper option.

Thesis Option (21 credits)

15 credits of elective courses
6 credits of SOCY 799 - Master’s Thesis Research

Including preparation and defense of a master’s thesis under a committee of three faculty members

Analytical Paper Option (21 credits)

18 credits of elective courses
3 credits of SOCY 711 - Analytical Paper Research

Including preparation of a research paper approved by a first and second reader
