POLI 318 - United States Constitutional History (3) A survey of Constitutional history from the founding of the English colonies in North America until the present. The class focuses in particular on the Enlightenment and Common Law roots of the United States Constitution, debates over the scope of federal power, the role of slavery and freedom in constitutional debates, and the rising pressure to expand civil rights and responsibilities for all citizens.
