[3]This course addresses the use of ongoing assessment to identify children’s reading needs and to plan for instruction. Students will demonstrate knowledge of the processes of learning to read, reading assessment within a balanced literacy program and creating classrooms that promote reading development. They will demonstrate the use of guided reading lessons and explicit instruction in word analysis, including children’s use of grapho-phonemic knowledge.
