Anthropology Major Honors

Offered by Sociology, Anthropology, and Public Health . Students with strong academic records conduct substantial independent research projects, culminating in a thesis, during their final year in the major. Students considering graduate school are particularly encouraged to pursue this option.

Admission to the Program


  • Completion of a minimum of 60 credits
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Completion of a minimum of 3 upper-level courses in Anthropology
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5 in Sociology and Anthropology courses

Program Requirements


  • Completion of Cultural Anthropology, B.A. , 6 additional credits, and completion of an approved honors thesis
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Minimum GPA of 3.5 in Sociology and Anthropology courses combined
  • Minimum 16 credits in Sociology and Anthropology courses in residence at UMBC
